C & C's Restaurants of the Week!!

Planta Cocina

Toronto, ON

Planta Cocina, located at 10 Temperance Street in Toronto's Financial District, offers rich, complex flavors in each of the dishes on their Mexican-inspired menu.  From the to-die-for Empañada appetizer to the light, sweet, palate-cleansing Tres Leches Trifle that graces the dessert  menu, everything we tasted was scrumptious and deeply satisfying.  We particularly recommend the El Gordo Quesadilla, made with jackfruit, and a trio of the Potato Chorizo, Pipian Squash, and Adobo Cauliflower tacos.  If you're also in the mood for a cocktail, the Cucumber Mule is not to be missed!

Hello 123 - Queen West

Toronto, ON

If you're looking for a great vegan brunch in the great city of Toronto, get yourself to Hello 123 post-haste!  This tiny gem, nestled in the heart of Parkdale at 1122 Queen Street West, offers such a delectable range of breakfast and lunch-style offerings that we had a really hard time narrowing down the options!  In the end, Christine went with Irene's Massive Breakfast - a hearty and delicious plate that combined a chickpea and kale omelette and pan-seared tempeh with whole grain pancakes, roasted potato wedges, sourdough toast, and a side salad with a light and savory sesame dressing.  I opted for their Benny Benny, a vegan play on Eggs Benedict, where the star of the show was their house-made parsley and tofu ricotta served on a pressed bun and topped with a gorgeous lemon & coconut infused hollandaise sauce.  Served with roasted potato wedges and salad, and accompanied by their Anti-Inflammatory Golden Mylk Latte, this dish is the perfect start to the perfect Sunday!

Mad Mex

Erie, PA

Located in Erie's Millcreek Mall, we love Mad Mex for being the only chain in our area at which vegan cheese and vegan sour cream are de facto menu items!  Several menu items (like the fabulous Herb O'Vore's Tofu Tacos picture above) are vegan as-is, and the oh-so friendly staff is always willing to accommodate vegan requests and substitutions on other dishes. Warm house-made tortilla chips with any of their fantastic salsas & guacamole round out the

meal, as does their wide range of draft beers and margaritas.

RoosterFish Pub

Watkins Glen, NY

Looking for a casual atmosphere with hearty, satisfying pub food?  The RoosterFish Brewery in Watkins Glen will definitely fit the bill!  We recommend their fried brussels sprouts appetizer, their cauliflower tacos (pictured above), and their Beyond Burger with sweet potato fries.  Christine also gives high marks for their craft beers - particularly the porters!
